1. Listening to a story told or read aloud well is a captivating experience. 2. Supports children in becoming active listeners, totally engaged and immersed in the text. 3. Enriches children's vocabulary by hearing new words in context and familiar words used in new ways, and children develop new insights into the way language works. 4. Expose your child to more complex plot lines than your child might encounter in books on their own reading level. 5. Reading aloud also naturally lead to discussions about the book, during which time you can check on your child's comprehension of the story. 6. It is appropriate for ALL children, including those who already read accurately and fluently. 7. Most of all, it's a wonderful family time activity. So Read! Read! Read! By reading aloud, you expose your child to more complex vocabulary and plot lines than your child might encounter in books on their own reading level.
